Description

Sebizole Ketoconazole 2% Medicated Shampoo 200ml has a potent antifungal action that treats the cause of dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis, rather than just treating the symptoms

What is Seborrhoeic dermatitis and dandruff?

Seborrhoeic dermatitis is a common skin disease which can often look unpleasant, red and sometimes scaly. When white scales are present it is called Dandruff.

Most skin specialists agree that dandruff is due to a yeast called Pityrosporum. The yeast normally lives on our bodies but in some people increases in number and leads to disease. The over production of sebum, the oily substance on our skin, may be an added factor as sebum is probably what the yeast lives on.

Many anti-dandruff shampoos act by changing the pH of the scalp and thus changing the ability of the yeast to survive. Sebizole Shampoo, through its active ingredient, ketoconazole, acts directly on the yeast by inhibiting its growth.

There is no cure for seborrhoeic dermatitis or dandruff, but it may be controlled. The use of medicated shampoos such as Sebizole Shampoo may help to control the dandruff when shampoo is applied once or twice a week.

Use 2% Sebizole for:

  • Treatment of seborrhoeic dermatitis (red &/or scaly & itchy skin).
  • Treatment of severe dandruff.
  • Maintenance of seborrhoeic dermatitis free scalp and hair.

Warnings

Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you need more information on how to treat seborrhoeic dermatitis.

PRECAUTIONS

Irritation may occur when Sebizole Shampoo is used immediately after prolonged treatment with topical corticosteroids on the same area. If a reaction suggesting sensitivity or chemical irritation should occur use of Sebizole Shampoo should be discontinued. Avoid contact with the eyes.

  • Use in pregnancy:

ketoconazole shampoo does not produce detectable blood levels after topical application. However, due to the teratogenic nature of the active ingredient in rats when given orally, it should only be used in pregnant or lactating women if in the judgement of the treating doctor the expected benefits outweigh the potential risk.

Adverse Reaction

Adverse events include allergic reaction, itchy, irritated or greasy skin and scalp, rash and erythema. As with other shampoos, a local burning sensation oiliness and dryness of the hair and scalp have also been reported.
