As MooGoo States:

New to powder dry shampoo?

Dry shampoo is almost as popular as Adele and Ed Sheeran combined (that’s really popular!), but most of the ones we saw on the market are packed in aerosol spray cans. When people try our dry shampoo for the first time, they often say “how did I not know about this before?” or “this is the absolute life-saver”. If that’s you, then welcome back, great to see you, you look well! If that’s not you YET then buckle up, you’re in for a treat! If you yearn for time-saving hacks, easier mornings, and fresh clean hair without getting your hair wet, you’re on the right page. And if you’re not into that at all…well…aren’t you a strange one?

People (all of us included) turn to a powder formula specifically because Aerosol sprays can have fine chemical particles that are easy to inhale as dry shampoo is used on your head, so they can enter the lungs – which is particle-ly concering (see what we did there?). Aerosol ingredients typically contain volatile hydrocarbons, such as propane, n-butane and isobutene, dimethyl ether (DME), methyl ethyl ether and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, now that’s some big words! Not only that, These aerosols can coat the scalp causing irritation and itchiness. No one wants that. Instead, we created a scalp-friendly, loose natural powder formula in a handy dandy shaker bottle delivery system that anyone can use, even those with very sensitive scalps.

So how does dry shampoo work you ask?

So, dry shampoo powders do their job by absorbing the oils your scalp produces to prolong the time needed between wet washes. This means you get to save time, money, water, and the environment (you little over-achiever you!) by spending less time in the shower. By using a dry shampoo powder in between wet washes, we predict you’ll wash your hair half as much as you used to (based on a double-blind study of the MooGoo HQ office staff). Not to mention the endless hours some of us spend drying and styling our hair after its washed. Can we get an AMEN? Now the real question is, how will you spend all the extra time you’ve got on your hands? No, you should do something more productive than scrolling Instagram.

Is it natural?

We like things au natural, so we made our dry shampoo powder formula with a blend of food-based powders and made the particles extra fine so they work better at absorbing unwanted oils from the hair and scalp. Application is super easy with our nifty, little shaker bottle to get the product right where you need it. Since we make gentle products for people with sensitive skin and scalps, we made sure that our version met the requirements of our ingredient philosophy (so no aerosol chemicals whatsoever) and its gentle on the hair and scalp. And even though it’s a white powder, it’s suitable for all hair types and colours.

Our dry shampoo powder also comes with our scent-sational signature MooGoo smell, giving you a quick refreshment no matter what you’ve been up to (no judgement here!). Also, if you’ve been looking for a quick natural way to get voluminous hair, this one’s for you. Check out our 7 Dry Shampoo Powder Tips & Tricks blog post for our more advanced (because we’re obsessed) recommendations for usage, and or our beginners guide for all things dry shampoo related in our Save Time, & Your Scalp Too! blog post.

FAQs

How does dry shampoo work?

Dry shampoo powders do their job by absorbing the oils your scalp produces to prolong the time needed between wet washes. This means you get to save time, money, and the environment by spending less time in the shower (woohoo!). While using a dry shampoo powder in between wet washes, we predict you’ll wash your hair half as much as you used to. Not to mention the endless hours some of us spend drying and styling our hair.

I have dark hair. Will this work for me?

We avoid using colouring ingredients to give you the most natural product we can, so even though it’s a white powder, it’s good for all hair types and colours. If you find you have a bit of white powder left behind after application, it just means it hasn’t been blended well enough so just get back in there and give your scalp the massage it deserves! If it still hasn’t subsided, you’ve just used a little bit too much and may have to use a little less next time – remember this bottle was built to last!

What’s the best way to apply dry shampoo?

Check out our YouTube tutorial video on the product details tab. If you’re looking for quick instructions, simply separate your hair into sections and gently shake the powder out of the bottle to cover the hair closest to your scalp as that is where most of the extra oils will be. Apply all over or target the area around the face because they tend to get oiliest the quickest and can always use the added boost of volume. Once the product has been applied, use your fingertips to rub the powder in making sure to spread it evenly and disperse any clumps created when the powder mixes with the oils of your hair. It’ll feel like a nice head massage too so take your time if you have some. Repeat as required.

How can I get more volume with dry shampoo?

Another brilliant bonus to using dry shampoo, especially powder is the VOLUME. So much volume you’ll get noise complaints – how’d you like that one? The trick to more voluminous hair is all in the roots. Section your hair like you would normally but pay more attention to the roots and then flick your hair over and shimmy like Shakira in 2003. Focus on massaging the powder into the roots then brush through your hair to make sure everything is well blended. Next, flick it over one more time and massage again, and when you pop up, just brush gently through to the ends, avoiding the roots. And voila, big, bouncy, beautiful hair. Do this throughout the day if you’re feeling fully fabulous.

Extra bonus tip: Using dry shampoo helps lock in your styling. Dust on some dry shampoo before you curl or put waves in your hair and you’ll be pleasantly surprised with how much longer they stay in place. Some people even like to put dry shampoo onto freshy washed hair just to make styling fresh hair easier and your chosen hairstyle will last longer than you ever thought possible.

Can I use your dry shampoo if I have scalp issues?

Yes, absolutely, but we recommend only using ones in powder form. Aerosol ingredients can coat the scalp causing further irritation and itchiness, not to mention they aren’t great for the lungs as we keep banging on about. If you have a very dry scalp, we recommend using dry shampoo powders sparingly as they do absorb oils from the hair and scalp, and our natural oils do help keep our scalp hydrated and healthy.

I have dry/oily hair. Do you have a dry shampoo powder for that?

Oily hair requires a higher concentration of cleansers than dry hair because more oils need to be absorbed. Simply vary the amount of dry shampoo powder you use based on how oily your hair is. If your hair tends to be dry, sprinkle the dry shampoo powder as close to the scalp as you can. If dry ends are an issue, we love our Protein Shot Leave-In Hair Conditioner to keep strand smooth all day, every day. Some long-time users do a light dusting every day that passes to avoid doing a big job on wash-less day #3.

How do I keep my head and hair healthy in between dry washes?

The best way to keep your hair healthy in between dry shampoo powder washes is to use gentle, scalp-friendly shampoos and conditioners when you wet wash. We make those too.

‘Fragrance’ is listed as one of the ingredients in this product. What does this mean?

When we first started making products, we used a blend of essentials oils to give them a lovely fragrance. But many people have severe reactions and allergies to them, even in small amounts. As a result, and because we make products for people with sensitive skin, we took them out of most products.  Instead, we helped to develop a special kind of fragrant oil, whereby each component in it is less than the EU allergy threshold. This is how we can have a pleasant-smelling product without the reactions. The scents we use are proprietary blends from the company we get them from, and we’ve had no reactions since we made the switch. Also, of course, it is free from phthalates, which is the main concern in fragrances.
