What’s the point of anti-ageing ingredients, particularly the expensive ones, if they just sit on top of the skin? Exactly! Not much point at all. Test tube results are meaningless if they don’t translate to real life, right? We want ingredients that do what they’re supposed to (that’s why you buy them after all), and to do that, they need to get into your skin. An effective serum is all about compatible molecular size and appropriate delivery systems. There’s a lot more to effective skin care than slapping on a cream and hoping for the best.

Argireline, as it stands, is a fantastic anti-ageing ingredient…in the test tube. It was specifically designed to target wrinkles and lines, particularly at the source of facial expression. However, studies on living skin came back with mixed results, mostly due to the poor level of penetration of the molecule into the skin. This has been a consistent problem for a lot of Peptides used in skincare products; they sound great, but when it comes to using them, you end up with not a whole lot of results and a lot of disappointment.

To overcome this penetration problem, Argireline Amplified Peptide was developed in 2020. It has a smaller molecule size than regular Argireline, which makes it a lot easier to get through the skin barrier. For good measure, we also combined it with a liposome delivery system that ensures this wonderful active penetrates down to the deepest layer of the skin. Argireline Amplified Peptide works by weakening the neurotransmitters between your skin and facial muscles. This reduces the prevalence and severity of expression lines that end up on your face by allowing the muscle to move without the skin moving with it. Less expression lines = Less visible fine lines and wrinkles!

We use the same percentage and same techniques as used in the original lab trials (see image below) to ensure we can achieve the same results: a 20% reduction in wrinkle depth after just 28 days of use. Pretty cool, huh? The effects of Argireline Amplified Peptide last around 5 days as the neurotransmitters reconnect the skin and the muscle. This means your results will improve over time with continued use as wrinkles and expression lines are ongoingly preventatively diminished. Sound familiar? Yes, this is what anti-ageing injections like Botox do, but on a much more drastic, expensive, semi-permanent, and invasive level. Why is this serum more expensive than the others?

We’re very picky about which ingredients we choose to use in our products and will always choose higher quality over lower cost. We also only include ingredients that are backed by science to ensure that our customers get effective products that do what they claim.

Specifically for this serum, the Argireline Amplified Peptide is a highly innovative ingredient that’s 50x more potent than regular Argireline, but also costs more to source. We paired it with high purity BeauActive to address sun damage, and a unique liposome delivery system to make sure it can penetrate deeply into the skin, both adding to the cost of this serum. It may cost a bit more to produce than our other serums, but we think it’s worth it.

Can I use this serum for more than 28 days?

Yes! The lab trials we reference show the best results when the Argireline Amplified Peptide (5%) is used for at least 28 days. The effects of Argireline Amplified Peptide last around 5 days, so with ongoing use your results will improve over time as wrinkles and expression lines are preventatively diminished.

What time of the day should I apply this?

For best results, apply morning and night after cleansing, and before applying a moisturiser.

Can I use it with my existing MooGoo Products?

Yes, you sure can! We recommend using this after cleansing with our Oil Cleansing Method or Creamy Hydrating Face Cleanser (or both if you prefer to double cleanse), and then follow with either our Night Restoration Cream in the evenings or our Anti-Ageing Antioxidant Face Cream in the mornings.

As this is an active peptide serum, be sure not to mix it directly with our other active serums such as our Hyaluronic Acid & Niacinamide, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate (Vitamin C) in Squalane or Bakuchiol Natural Retinol Substitute. Instead, we recommend alternating them morning and night, if you wish to target multiple skin concerns.

Is Modified Argireline Amplified Peptide a natural ingredient?

Argireline consists of a group of natural amino acids, namely Arginine, Glytamine, Methionine and Acetylated Glutamic Acid. This means that the ingredient is naturally derived.

Is BeauActive a natural ingredient?

Yes! BeauActive (Hydroxystearic Acid) is naturally derived from Oleic Acid (Sunflower Oil) and is also the identical ingredient in fermented Ginseng. It’s also manufactured using Green Chemistry, which ensures it meets our sustainability commitments.

How does Argireline Amplified Peptide affect facial muscles / expressions? 

The Argireline Amplified Peptide works by weakening the neurotransmitters between the skin and facial muscles, which means the skin is less impacted by your natural expressions. As a result, when you smile (or frown – hopefully not too often!) the skin will crease less, which means less opportunity for permanent creases to form. This also improves the appearance of current expression lines as they will crease less deeply during facial movement and therefore not appear as severe. Over time the added benefits of this serum such as stimulating collagen will also help to ‘plump out’ fine lines and improve overall youthfulness of the skin.

Can I use this serum during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

We have found no specific studies on this as presumably, it’s ethically difficult to do, just as most other ingredients don’t have studies on pregnant women. In the cases where there isn’t any specific cause for concern (i.e essential oils), we advise people that it’s best to do whatever they feel most comfortable with. Have a chat to your preferred health practitioner if you’d like a second opinion.

Does the Argireline Amplified Peptide increase UV sensitivity?

No, Argireline Amplified Peptide does not increase your UV sensitivity and so, can still be used prior to sun exposure – although we always recommend wearing sun protection when spending time outdoors.

Can long-term use of Argireline Amplified Peptide cause ‘sagginess’?

Unfortunately, this is a wide-spread rumour about Argireline that’s been circulating online. The functioning mechanism of Argireline is similar to Botox in that it affects the neurotransmitters between your skin and facial muscles, reducing skin movement (on a much less drastic, more affordable and less invasive level). Botox completely inhibits these neurotransmitters, which is why some people find that thin areas of the face (i.e under the eyes) can begin to sag with prolonged use, because the muscle has been totally relaxed for long periods of time. Argireline Amplified Peptide, however, does not fully block the connection between the skin and facial muscles, but rather just weakens them to reduce movement, not eliminate it. This makes it very unlikely to cause any long-term or permeant skin sagginess. There are also no clinical tests showing that the long-term topical application of Argireline causes these negative effects. On the contrary, there are numerous clinical results that displays how Argireline improves expression wrinkles and skin sagginess around the eyes, forehead and mouth.
