As MooGoo States:
The Oil Cleansing Method is a way of cleansing the skin using oils and massage. Oil to cleanse the skin? It sounds counter-intuitive but oils can dissolve hardened oil that can get stuck in your pores, and also help remove other impurities such as built up dirt, sweat and makeup. The massage part helps the oil get deeper in your pores to do its work, and who doesn’t love a good massage?
This can be particularly helpful to those suffering from blemishes, or for removing heavy makeup and/or sunscreen. We made this using a mixture of drawing and moisturising oils. The drawing oils help pull out and dissolve old oils, and the moisturising oils, such as Jojoba Oil, are high in antioxidants and help keep skin hydrated and soft. This means you can cleanse and moisturise your skin at the same time! How’s that for multi-tasking?
Cleansing with oil is particularly beneficial because it doesn’t strip the skin of its natural oils, which can ultimately lead to an overproduction of more oil and lead to further breakouts.

We show all of the ingredients we use in our products on our website, not just the pretty ones. That way you know exactly what’s in each one, and can get in touch if you have any more questions.
Please be aware that the ingredients we use in our formulas may be updated occasionally and therefore vary from time to time. Please refer to the ingredient list on the product packaging for the most up-to-date and relevant list of ingredients.
FAQs
How do you use the Oil Cleansing Method?
Simply massage oil into the skin. The longer you do this, the better as it allows the oil to penetrate deeper into the pores and dissolve old oil that can be clogging your pores. It’s also a great excuse for a face massage which feels really nice too. Wet your hands with water and massage again to emulsify the oils, then rinse off with water.
For an extra deep clean, after oil has been massaged into the skin, soak a washcloth in hot water, wring out and place on face to steam out built up impurities. This will help pores open up and allow the oils to penetrate further. Rinse with water or wipe face clean with a washcloth. Follow with your favourite serum and moisturiser (such as our Night Cream) for a complete night time skincare routine.
Why don’t we make different cleansers for different skin types?
It may seem odd that we only make 1 formula of our Oil Cleansing Method for all skin types since many companies offer different ones for oily, dry, normal and combination. In our opinion, we don’t think it’s needed if you make a good cleanser. If you look closely you might notice that there isn’t much difference in the ingredient listings anyway. It’s kind of like pet food made specifically for indoor pets and outdoor pets (which is actually a thing) – not sure what difference this would make.
A cleanser intended for oily skin has a higher concentration of cleansers than a dry skin cleanser because more cleaning is required. But you can achieve much the same result by just varying the amount of cleanser you use and wash twice if needed.
What other products are suitable for blemish-prone skin?
We have a few other products that specifically address blemishes. Our Blemish Cleansing Moisturiser was designed to help prevent the external causes of breakouts using healthy ingredients (not bleaches like Benzoyl Peroxide). By using it twice a day, it helps prevent oil from oxidising in the pores, as well as cleansing the skin of the type of bacteria that causes breakouts.
Our Tamanu Oil is a lush oil that helps when dealing with blemishes. It’s best applied after washing, but before moisturising. While it might seem counterintuitive to use oil on blemishes, adding oils to the skin actually helps the skin to stop overproducing its own oil, which is one of the main causes for blemishes.
And finally, for those looking to exfoliate, we created our Gentle Exfoliating Powder, a gentle, non-abrasive facial exfoliant designed to keep the skin fresh by exfoliating physically and enzymatically.
Are you cleansers safe for lash extensions?
The Milk Wash is great for lash extensions. It has the same irritation score as water and uses a combination of gentle natural cleansers. Oils can break down the glue used, so steer clear of using the Oil Cleansing Method on the eye area whilst you’ve got lashes on
